Yad Hebrew School for Children with Special Needs

NEW HOME

By Boynton July 22, 2016
Parents of children with special needs who want them to have a Jewish education, can look to the Friedman Commission for Jewish Education for help. The CJE is set to begin its 15th year of the J.N. Somers Yad Hebrew School for Children with Special Needs in its new home at Temple Torat Emet in Boynton Beach. The CJE program’s philosophy is that all children, regardless of learning ability, deserve open gateways for participation in Jewish learning experiences and important Jewish rites of passage - such as Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

The classes, held each
Sunday morning from September through May, are also unique in that the Commission for Jewish Education maintains a one-to-one ratio of teachers or volunteers to students. This is the ideal setting for children on the Autism spectrum, with ADHD, communication disorders, Down Syndrome or any other developmental disabilities.

Families can register through CJE’s Director of Special Needs Education, Wilma Turk at
w.turk@cjepb.org or (561) 640-0700, or learn more atcjepb.org .
