Back to School

Making the Most of Your Routine

By Joyce Macaroni Kid July 22, 2016

Getting back to school…. I know I can’t believe I’m saying those words either.

We're almost 3 weeks away from the first day of school which is August 15th. Not sure about your Summer but ours simply flew by. I definitely enjoyed not rushing around most mornings and not having to wake up my kids up.

Now is the time to get back into the school mode, slowly,  so it’s not a shock for you or your kids.
Some of us had their kids in Summer Camp so the transition should be a little easier for you.
Here are some tips that have worked for me and that I’ve heard from other parents.:
-Start NOW getting your kids to bed 10 minutes earlier each night, they may fight you at first, but it will be best for them.
-Practice in the morning getting out of the house the time you need to during the school year.
-Organize your children’s work area for the school year, a place they will put the homework, the special notes, their completed work, and a calendar.

-Go school shopping with the kids, I know that got me excited about school.
-Let them pick out a couple of “special outfits” for the first week… If they are in uniforms… LUCKY YOU!

-Don’t forget - This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7.

-Get yourself organized… I struggled with that this past year… Overwhelmed by the amount of papers, and trying to remember where I put them. I’ll be sure to have a more organized system this year (I’ll share once it’s complete).

-Check the circulars, there are some great sales happening now for things not necessarily on your supply list, but could be helpful for your teacher's classroom, like penny items at Office Depot etc.

-Make the 1st day extra special, maybe even the week. If you plan on packing a lunch - add a nice note in the lunches - if they are older something small -- we wouldn’t want to embarrass them right? ;)  How about a special breakfast filled with nutrition with a side of sweetness - another publisher mentioned her child has ice cream for breakfast on the first day… well wouldn’t that get you excited.  And be positive - have you noticed our kids sometimes feed off our mood.

-Don’t forget that special 1st day picture with the sign… this way you can compare the 1st day to the last day of school and see the difference.

-Start talking about school… I’ve probably been talking about it since school ended, as I have my 2nd child going into Kindergarten. I’m trying to get him excited about school.
-Check with your local libraries, they have lots of special programs throughout the Summer including things geared towards learning and school. Found on our website www.BoyntonBeach.macaronikid.com

-Get yourself organized…. Put your important dates on the calendar, make an designated station for you, with important paperwork, and inbox and outbox, so you don’t have piles of things on your table.

-Plan to get them to school 15-20 minutes early, remember there are lots of new students at the school, the school zones are back, there is going to be a delay. Nothing like starting the 1st days off running late.

-GOOD LUCK TO YOUR STUDENTS… HAVE A GREAT 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR!
