About Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual event designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for our global environment.  Founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970, the first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.  Communities around the world are celebrating Earth Day's 45th Anniversary, promoting this year's theme, "It's Our Turn to Lead":  For more information, visit www.earthday.org.
